Wartales: The Skelmar Invasion

Wartales: The Skelmar Invasion is the fourth DLC for the independent tactical RPG Wartales made by Shiro Games. The expansion introduces the mechanics of liberating fortified strongholds.

Story

The land of Ormance, once the county of Edoran, was invaded by the Skelmars in search of riches and fertile lands. The invasion carried out by this alliance of clans plunged the region into chaos and ruin, leaving fortresses and landmarks captured by ruthless occupiers. The goal of Wartales: The Skelmar Invasion is to gather the surviving forces, rescue the Countess, and liberate each of the baronies.

Gameplay

Wartales: The Skelmar Invasion expansion forces us to deal with repelling the invasion of the Skelmars. We need to liberate subsequent areas and then recruit local factions. Each location liberated in this way can be rebuilt and produce valuable resources or offer military support from watchtowers. When creating a resistance network, we manage three resources: labor force, building materials, and supplies.

The novelty introduced in the expansion are sieges divided into phases. In the first phase, we gather our forces outside the fortress to face the enemy defenders stationed in front of the walls. Using siege engines we break the defense by creating an opening for our troops. Next, being watchful of the towers, we traverse the interior of the fortress to reach the leader.

Wartales: The Skelmar Invasion also adds the crossbowman class.

Co-op

Just like in the base version of the game, in Wartales: The Skelmar Invasion we can decide to play alone or in online cooperation for up to four players.
