Warrios of Might and Magic for PS2 is the first game of the highly popular RPG series that was released on consoles. Due to the platform’s character, instead of being a typical RPG, Warriors is a third-person action-adventure game.
The Plot
We play as Allenor, a young warrior who once was the officer of the guard at the Ardon’s royal castle. One day, one of the priests accuses him of practicing the forbidden magic of necromancy, which leads to Allenor’s capture and imprisonment. Presumed guilty, he is forced to wear a living mask that brings him continuous anguish. Exiled, our hero vows to find out why he was falsely accused and clean his name.
Mechanics
Warriors of Might and Magic for PS2 is a typical third-person hack and slash with RPG elements, very similar to Crusaders of Might and Magic released six months earlier. We will have to explore ten vast levels, where we will be forced to face numerous enemies. The game has a rather simplistic combat and spells system. Like in many similar games, our hero has a life and mana bars. As we level up, we unlock more powerful spells and find better equipment.
Technical Aspects
As of today, Warriors visuals are a bit outdated, but the cinematics played between the game levels are still quite easy on the eye. The game barely has any voice acting and completely lacks any sort of OST. 3DO did not take to the heart all the criticism that came after the release of Crusaders and Legends of Might & Magic. With Warriors of Might and Magic, the studio repeated the same mistakes. Empty areas, terrible combat system, and disappointing visuals were some of the main reasons why the game was not successful at all, which somehow lead to the fall of 3DO.
Misc.
Warriors of Might and Magic was released on PlayStation 2, PSX, and Game Boy Color, and each version was much different than the rest in terms of the plot and gameplay.
