WW1 Sky Aces is the subtitle of the second installment of the Warplanes series, i.e. skillful flight simulators with strategic elements. Like the previous part of the series, the production is distributed in a free-to-play model and was developed by an independent Polish studio Home Net Games, which has such brands as The Pirate, Zombie Defense and Hex Commander in its portfolio.

Plot

The action of Warplanes: WW1 Sky Aces takes place during the First World War. We play the role of a pilot who takes part in the biggest battles of this era in the sky and flies over most of the countries involved in this global conflict. In the course of three campaigns we can take the side of both Entente and Central Powers.

Mechanics

Warplanes: WW1 Sky Aces consists of various missions, during which we not only fight against enemy planes, but also protect and destroy ground targets and eliminate giant airships and anti-aircraft artillery.

During the game, we sit behind the controls of more than thirty real planes. Among them is Fokker Dr. I, who made Manfred von Richthofen, known as the "Red Baron", triumph. In addition, the authors give us at our disposal such machines as the fast and agile Airco DH.2 fighter or even the bomber Ilya Muromets equipped with four engines. We unlock new planes as we progress, and each of them can be modified both visually and technically to improve their performance.

Creators allow us to play in one of the two variants of the game. Pilot Mode focuses on air battles and collecting and improving machines. In Squadron Leader mode, our shoulders are additionally responsible for the recruitment and training of new pilots, as well as the expansion of the base based on the acquired raw materials.

Technical aspects

While on mobile devices the three-dimensional graphics of Warplanes: WW1 Sky Aces can be enjoyed, on personal computers it looks on average; on a large screen it is easier to see relatively small texture details or pay attention to the not very spectacular explosions accompanying the elimination of enemy units.
