Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron is a dynamic arcade shooter in which we control an aircraft. The game was set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, known for its figure battle game of the same name. However, unlike many other productions that use this license, in this game we do not direct a man. Instead, we play a role of... an Orc pilot. The game was developed by Phosphor Games Studio (known from the Brookhaven Experiment).

Plot

The action of the game takes place in the 41st millennium, where a large part of the galaxy is controlled by a powerful Imperium of Man constantly waging wars against various races and factions. The player is the representative of one of such races - valiant orcs, which despite their apparent simplicity and outdated technology pose a huge threat to humanity.

Mechanics

Dakka Squadron is a dynamic shooter in which we control various types of flying machines. We can take on the role of Orc belonging to one of several clans (Blood Axes, Goffs, Bad Moons, Death Skullz and Evil Sunz). Each of them offers different types of bonuses and passive abilities. We also have various vehicles at our disposal, like Dakkajet, Burna-Bomma or Blitza-Bomma. We start as a low-level pilot (so-called Flyboy) with a weak ship, but as time goes by, performing missions and meeting various challenges, we are getting higher and higher in the hierarchy of our clan and getting access to better equipment and weapons. We are also gradually expanding our squadron.

The mechanics of flying is very skillful - we have to be vigilant, we can make sudden turns or quilts to avoid enemy fire or get rid of the enemy sitting on our tail. Missions take place on various planets and require attacking targets both in the air and on the ground (e.g. carpet bombing). We have a whole range of different weapons at our disposal, such as machine guns, bombs or rockets.

Game modes

In Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron, we can only play alone. The main game mode is a feature campaign consisting of several dozen missions.

Technical aspects

Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron has pleasant, three-dimensional graphics. The graphic design does not stand out from the crowd in technical terms, but it does well reflect the climate of the Warhammer 40,000. This can be seen especially in the designs of characters, locations and vehicles which faithfully reproduce what we know from the miniature wargame.
