Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Champions Description
Warhammer: Age of Sigmar – Champions is an unusual card game that comes in two versions: entirely digital and physical. The latter one combines real cards with augmented reality system based on mobile devices. This allows players to observe spectacular animations and enjoy the atmosphere of the Warhammer: Age of Sigmar universe (the game is based on this license) in a way that could not be possible to achieve with a regular card game. The game was developed by PlayFusion, also known for creating Lightseekers – a game based on a similar formula.
Mechanics
Upon starting the game, one has to select a faction (there are four available: Order, Chaos, Destruction, and Death) and build a deck. It comprises 38 cards including 4 legendary champions, 4 powerful blessings, and 30 unit, skills and spell cards. The game offers several hundred different cards to choose from.
The game begins after a champion card is placed on the table together with a face-down blessing, effect of which might (but does not have to) be uncovered during the match. Then, players take turns and perform a maximum of 2 actions – it is possible to play cards or using heroic skills of those that are already on the table. After each action, the player draws another card. The game ends when one of the players’ health is depleted (as an effect of spells of unit attacks).
Warhammer: Age of Sigmar – Champions stands out from other card games with quest system. Each champion has a particular challenge to complete with specific conditions (these can include destroying enemies, deploying units or casting given spells). Completing a quest allows activating the face-down blessing. It is a powerful skill that can tip the scales of a match in an instant.
Game modes
Warhammer: Age of Sigmar – Champions features only a multiplayer mode.
Technical aspects
The game described herein features visuals that do not deviate much from similar games representing the genre – the 2D interface is clear, while the colorful and well-designed cards are bound to appeal to many players.
