Warhammer 40,000: Deathwatch - Enhanced Edition Description
Warhammer 40,000: Deathwatch - Enhanced Edition for PC and iOS is a turn-based strategy game based on a 2010's RPG that was set in the world of a popular battle system created by Games Workshop. The PC edition is an improved version of the game which debuted several months earlier on Apple's mobile devices. The title was brought by Rodeo Games. It is the second Warhammer game the studio has developed, after Warhammer Quest.
Plot
The game is set somewhere on the edge of the imperial space, where Space Marines gathered around an elite organization known as Deathwatch and fight extreme battles against the Tyranids – an alien species of aggressive, non-humanoid creatures. The player visits a series of different locations, such as spaceships of the Tyranids, desert-like asteroids or cities in ruins.
Mechanics
Gameplay is turn-based here and in terms of the mechanics, it resembles the aforementioned Warhammer Quest. The player assumes control over a team of five Space Marines (chosen from among over 40 elite figures) with their own active and passive skills. In the story campaign, the player goes through 10 acts (4 missions each) and faces both the Tyranids and other hostile races, such as Genestealers or Carnifexes. During subsequent missions, the player-controlled commandos gain experience, which can be spent to unlock more and more powerful abilities. Significantly, experience is carried over subsequent missions, thus if any of the player's soldiers falls in battle, their experience points are lost. The game brings a wide set of armors and weapons (in total, over 150 types) that can be developed alongside progression as well.
Technical aspects
Warhammer 40,000: Deathwatch – Enhanced Edition for PC and iOS is played from an aerial view, though the player can rotate the camera angle to their liking, which makes it easier to control the subordinates and navigate the battlefield. Apart from several new Space Marines appearing here, the PC version differs from the mobile original mainly in terms of the visuals – the game is powered by Unreal Engine 4. All the missions from the original release were remastered here using dynamic lighting and special effects. The head-up display was re-designed along with the controls scheme in order to fit into the specifics of PC gaming.
Misc.
Warhammer 40,000: Deathwatch – Enhanced Edition for PC and iOS comes with the Codex book (as a special addition for the fans of Warhammer) featuring virtual stickers that portray elements of equipment, weapons, relics, etc.
