Divided We Fall

Warfare Online is an online multiplayer RTS game, which is the next installment (however the first one to feature a multiplayer) in the series that was initiated by two games: Warfare 1917 and Warfare 1944. The title, created by Con Artist Games, is released on PC Windows in a friendly, free-to-play system, where you won't find any time limits or intrusive microtransactions.

Mechanics

Unlike Warfare 1917 and Warfare 1944, which were set during both World Wars, this game focuses on a fictional conflict that takes place in a near future – which is reflected by the equipment and weapons used by soldiers. The gameplay is similar to classic, tactical RTS games such as Company of Heroes, which means that players don't have to gather resources and develop their bases. We immediately start on a battlefield and control a squad that is created before battles. The squads can consist of units that belong to various classes (such as rifleman, assault, sniper, engineer etc.) and vehicles (e.g. tanks).

However, that is not all – during the fights, players can also access about 150 different forms of support, such as artillery barrage, mines dropped from planes or military intelligence. They have different impact on the battle, upgrading player's units for a limited time or reducing the abilities of a hostile army. New units and useful bonuses that can be later used in battles are unlocked by making progress in the game. Because the game is released in a free-to-play model, all those elements can be bought with real money via a system of microtransactions.

Game modes

As the title suggests, Warfare Online is focused mainly on one-on-one battles between players. For those that prefer to play alone, Con Artist Games studio created a Skirmish mode which allows to fight battles against the AI.

Technical aspects

Even though the game is released on PC Windows in a free-to-play model, Warfare Online's graphics look good and the soldiers are realistically animated thanks to a ragdoll system. The ability to use various, completely destructible terrain covers is also noteworthy. Those covers can be used for many offensive and defensive maneuveres.
