VR Ping Pong Pro is a sports game simulating table tennis and was created for users of VR glasses. The independent Italian studio studio Reddoll Games, which specializes in VR technology, is responsible for the title. The game is a direct continuation of VR Ping Pong released in 2016. Developers have added new modes and locations to the sequel, and have significantly improved the three-dimensional visuals.
Mechanics
VR Ping Pong Pro is trying to be as faithful as possible when recreating table tennis competitions. The action is presented from first-person perspective. Players control a floating pallet as they try to bounce the balls that are approaching them. The title uses the standard ping-pong rules, which are subject to some modifications in the optional game variants. Thanks to the advanced physics, the balls behave in a predictable and realistic way, enabling us to use a lot of tricks.
Matches are held in large, realistic arenas, featuring locations such as the arcade lounge, stadium or traditional Japanese garden, with tables in the centre. To control the palettes, we can use a gamepad or PlayStation Move (PlayStation 4) and HTC Vive (PC) controllers. The devs offer a total of five difficulty levels.
Game modes
VR Ping Pong Pro offers the possibility to play solo as well as with other players via the Internet. In the case of the first option, we can play a single match against an AI or take part in a long tournament, beating increasingly demanding opponents. The game also features several mini-games, enabling us to test different elements of the game, for example, focusing on the fastest and most accurate shots. In multiplayer mode we can use the standard 1v1 duel option or join a tournament.
Technical aspects
VR Ping Pong Pro offers realistic visuals, with a large number of details, a good lighting system and interesting ambient designs. The title differs significantly from its predecessor, which had very simple and minimalistic graphics. It is worth noting that players can change the appearance of palettes and balls, as well as modify the animations accompanying the bouncing or serves.
