Vedelem: The Golden Horde PC

Vedelem: The Golden Horde is a free-to-play real-time strategy game clearly inspired by the popular They Are Billions. It was developed by the Castle Roaches team as a student project as part of a class at the University of Applied Sciences in Breda.

Plot

Vedelem: The Golden Horde takes us on a journey to 13th century Eastern Europe fighting an invasion from the Mongolian Golden Horde. Our task is to stop the victorious march of the ruthless invaders.

Mechanics

In Vedelem: The Golden Horde we observe the action from a top-down view. During the game all the duties of a medieval ruler fall on our shoulders. To fight off the Mongol attack, we have to take care of the economy and the extraction of resources, construct various buildings (including farms producing food), build numerous fortifications and finally recruit soldiers and provide them with various upgrades to increase their combat potential. Although we have no chance to gain advantage over tens of thousands of adversaries, even smaller units, when well-equipped and trained, are able to effectively fight them. If we do everything right, over time we can try to expand our sphere of influence into new territories, which will allow us to snatch a piece of land from the hands of the occupants, as well as lay hands on new resources.

Game modes

In Vedelem: The Golden Horde there are three game modes waiting to be tested. In Skirmish Mode, we have to defend ourselves against the Mongol attacks for a limited time, while in Endless Mode we have to fight off successive waves of Mongols until the last soldier is left alive. The Challenge Maps mode offers thirteen specially prepared scenarios, varying in difficulty.

Technical aspects

Taking into account the fact that we are dealing with a free project of a group of students, it can be said that the graphics in Vedelem: The Golden Horde looks good. The whole thing is colourful and clear, which allows you to quickly orient yourself in the situation on the battlefield.
