Conan Unconquered

Conan Unconquered is a real-time strategy game with tower defense elements. The project was developed by Petroglyph studio (known for Star Wars: Empire At War, Universe at War: Earth Assault, Grey Goo and Forged Battalion). In addition, many of the developers working in this team have co-created the Command & Conquer series.

Plot

As the title might suggest, the game is based on novels and stories about Conan's adventures in Cymeria by Robert E. Howard. The action of the game takes place during the so-called Hybrid Era, a fictional period in the history of ancient Earth resembling dark fantasy.

When the game begins, Conan is an older man and has sat on the throne of his own kingdom for a long time. His territories become a target of the invasion of wild tribes, forcing the barbarian to return to the battlefield.

Mechanics

The authors openly admit that the main inspiration for them was They Are Billions. Conan Unconquered is therefore a RTS enriched with tower defense elements, where players on each level build a fortress and gather an army to fight off the invasion. Enemy attacks come in waves with each being more dangerous than the previous one.

The game takes place in real time but players can at any time enter the pause menu and give orders without rush. This option is very useful, because in addition to the enemies themselves, we also have to deal with fires and plagues.

While playing, players collect and manage resources and construct many different buildings and defensive structures, including walls and traps. There is also an option to build temples, which allows you to gain favors of the gods, as well as summon their avatars to the battlefield. Armies comprise infantry soldiers, cavalry and sorcerers. In addition to standard units, it is also possible to unlock powerful heroes, including Conan himself.

Maps are generated randomly, so the game can be played many times without the feeling of boredom. They are diversified by ruins hiding treasures but often guarded by giant guards.

Game modes

Conan Unconquered offers a single player mode as well as a cooperative more for two players.

Technical aspects

The game features appealing 3D visuals that are bound to impress when a large number of units flash on the battlefield.
