Universal Combat: Hostile Intent Description
Hostile Intent is a game based on the Universal Combat engine, emphasizing clean combat. Compared to the original, it has improved graphics and algorithms of artificial intelligence, and removed the rather complicated career mode "Commander" and all the functionalities associated with it.
The game world is also significantly smaller than the original. It is composed of, among others:
- 5 star systems;
- 12 regions of space;
- 12 planets;
- 24 planetary mission zones;
- 10 space stations (on planets);
- 48 military bases (on planets);
- 12 star stations (orbiting around planets and in space).
Although Universal Combat has 13 playable breeds and 24 castes/classes (of which 13 were also playable), Hostile Intent offers only one playable breed, Terran, and two hostile castes - Military and Insurgent. The assortment of weapons is impressive and includes a variety of brutal extermination tools ranging from simple guns to rocket launchers. Most of them, known from the previous part of the game, have been redesigned, adapting to the requirements of a more modern graphic engine, while 6 are completely new constructions. Our character can also benefit from a wide range of useful items such as jetpacks, infrared glasses, various shields, etc. The creators have also put at our disposal a number of vehicles: fighters, transporters or cruisers.
The game offers single player gameplay as well as multiplayer modes. In single player mode you can fight in the campaign as Elite Force Pilot or Elite Force Marine. Both campaigns consist of 10 missions each. In addition, we can choose one of the 10 unrelated scenarios, which we can treat as a kind of training. There are two modes for multiplayer gameplay:
- Base Capture - based on the traditional Capture the Flag, is based on capturing enemy bases;
- Death Match / Team Deathmatch.
Multiplayer games can accommodate up to 128 players on a single server.
