The add-on to the strategy game Total War: Three Kingdoms published in 2019. Fates Divided focuses on the events of 200 AD, when Yuan Shao and Cao Cao fought a war for influence that shook the entire Middle Kingdom.
Fates Divided is an expansion to Total War: Three Kingdoms, a game released in 2019 that combines elements of RTS and turn-based strategy. It was developed by the authors of the original and previous add-ons, Creative Assembly studio.
Plot
The action of Total War: Three Kingdoms - Fates Divided takes place ten years after the events presented in the original. The add-on takes us to the year 200 AD and its main characters are Yuan Shao and Cao Cao - childhood friends, who as seasoned warriors stand against each other in the struggle for control over the Middle Kingdom. The add-on lets us choose whether we'll try to conquer China as the second one, or command troops resisting his ruthless army in the skin of the first one.
The expansion also introduces an intergenerational campaign, in which we, as Liu Yan in 190 and 194, prepare the stage for his successor, Liu Zhang. Moreover, the add-on brings other historical figures, such as Liu Bei and Ma Teng, whom we can also play as we try to achieve their goals.
Mechanics
Fates Divided does not introduce any great changes in Total War: Three Kingdoms game mechanics. Instead, the authors focused on expanding the content. New missions and events were prepared, more than twenty previously unavailable unit types were introduced, and new mechanics were added for each faction. In addition, Liu Yan has a unique resource - aspiration - which he acquires by completing special tasks.
Technical aspects
Fates Divided is not a standalone expansion pack and therefore requires the base version of Total War: Three Kingdoms to function.
