The game, which started the famous series of arcade games enabling us to play as the world's most famous skaters and test ourselves in performing crazy evolutions in different parts of the world.
Mechanics
The devs from Neversoft prepared ten world-class skateboarders, including Tony Hawk, Bucky Lasek, Bob Burnquist and Chad Muska. Each of them has his own characteristic tricks and skateboards.
Tony Hawk's Skateboarding does not try to simulate extreme skateboarding. The mechanics, developed by the devs, enables us to bend the laws of physics and make sometimes crazy trick combos but never exceeds a certain level of plausability, above which the fun would become completely detached from the real world.
Game modes
As part of the Career Mode, the players can test their skills on nine boards with a number of tasks. The game is about achieving subsequent goals during two-minute runsm includning gathering collectibles, e.g. video tapes. Items are awarded not only for beating point results but also for collecting letters that make up the word SKATE or completing a mission characteristic for a given map. In addition to the career mode, the devs have also made it possible to practice skills in free-ride on each of the unlocked boards and to compete against other player. On a split-screen, two enthusiasts can face off in a traditional battle for points, a struggle to mark as many elements as possible on their color, or a competition for the best scored trick.
Technical aspects
Tony Hawk's Skateboarding features detailed 3D graphics, including detailed player models. The strong point of the title is the soundtrack, including songs of such groups as The Vandals, Goldfinger, Dead Kennedys or Primus, well-matched to skater competitions. In the United States, the game was released under the title Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
