Tom Clancy's ruthless.com is a turn-based strategy game based on a book of the same title, the second part of the Tom Clancy's Power Plays series published between 1997 and 2004. The title is another (after Tom Clancy's Politika, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six and Dominant Species) production in the American studio Red Storm Entertainment, founded two years earlier by Tom Clancy and Doug Littlejohns.
The plot of the game shows a gloomy vision of the modern world, in which merciless and influential corporations are constantly fighting for power. In the game we play the role of the owner of a computer company, whose task is to climb to the top of the shoulders of competitors. Tom Clancy's ruthless.com offers us six different scenarios with different starting and winning conditions. According to the title of the game, the key to victory here will not be a fair fight, but action as merciless as possible and devoid of any complexes.
The aim of the game is to dominate the competition by proper management of your company, and the game takes place in a simultaneous turn-based mode on maps slightly resembling a board game. During each turn, players can give their subordinates two commands from several groups covering different aspects of our company's operations, such as Corporate, Research & Development, Marketing, Administration, Human Resources, Acquisitions, Legal, Security and Computer Core.
The number of working methods is extremely wide, and since there is no room for sentiments in the corporate world, we must be as ruthless as possible. The effect of our actions can be both the creation of a new department or a new product, but also the establishment of a secret alliance with the competition or the murder of a specific character, which stands in the way of achieving the goal. In the course of the game we can also employ better and better employees, who will guarantee us unique bonuses giving us an advantage over our rivals. At the end of each turn we receive a detailed report informing us about how our decisions influenced the company's quotations and its market position.
In addition to the single-player campaign, Tom Clancy's ruthless.com also allows you to have fun in free mode and play multiplayer (up to 6 players) via the Internet or a local network.
