Tom Clancy's Politika is a turn-based strategy named after the famous American writer. The game is an electronic version of a board game of the same title. The title was developed by Red Storm, co-founded by Clancy himself.
Plot
The action of the game was set in Russia in 1997. After the sudden death of President Yeltsin, who did not manage to anoint anyone as his successor, a fierce power struggle begins in the country. Eight hostile factions are starting the race for the highest office in the country, and each of them will try to gain as much influence as possible and, consequently, take over power in Russia.
Mechanics
Among the rival factions we have representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, former members of the officially dissolved KGB, bosses of the Russian mafia, the military faction, nationalist extremists, post-Jeletsin reformers and separatists, who were striving to restore the communism. The whole gameplay is modeled quite strongly on the rules of the popular board game by Hasbro. The players' task is to gradually strive for domination with the use of the unique features of the controlled faction, and the whole game takes place in an atmosphere of dark interests and political intrigues in modern Russia.
Other
A peculiarity is the fact that the game came with a free copy of Tom Clancy's Power Plays: Politika book. The novel, which focuses on slightly different events than the game (Russian terrorist attack on the United States), turned out to be one of the lowest-rated books by the popular author.
