Toby: The Secret Mine
Two-dimensional platformer with elements of adventure, strongly inspired by the best-selling Limbo. The title Toby chases his kidnapped friends. The player's task is to guide him safely through 21 stages, in which he is swarming with traps set by enigmatic enemies.
Toby: The Secret Mine is a hybrid of the classic platformer and adventure game, developed by the independent dev Lukas Navratil.
Story
Toby: The Secret Mine takes the player on a journey to a fantastic world. The home village of the title character was attacked by mysterious invaders who kidnapped most of its inhabitants. Two daredevils gave chase, but just like the rest of the inhabitants, they were quickly lost without a trace. Toby is the village's last hope, who in search of his friends found himself in a gloomy forest hiding dark secrets.
Mechanics
The action in Toby: The Secret Mine is observed from the side. Due to the fact that the direct source of inspiration for the developer was the best-selling Limbo, the game is based on a very similar premise. The title, therefore, consists of traversing successive locations (among 21 levels there are both the aforementioned forest, gloomy caves or even the title mine), jumping from platform to platform, avoiding numerous traps set by adversaries and solving more or less complex environmental (based on the manipulation of environmental elements) and logic puzzles.
Technical aspects
Just like the game from PlayDead, Toby: The Secret Mine is characterized by subdued, two-dimensional visuals. Nevertheless, the visual sphere of the game, although dark, can boast a richer color palette. The whole thing is complemented by an atmospheric soundtrack.
