theBlu is a PC game created by independent studio Wevr, Inc. We are dealing with a representative of the first person experience genre, in which the role of the player is almost exclusively limited to observing what is happening on the screen. In this case, it is about looking at the organisms that inhabit underwater depths.
Mechanics
TheBlu is divided into three different experiences. In Whale Encounter we find ourselves on board of a sunken shipwreck, from where we can observe a giant whale. Reef Migration presents the underwater migration of sea turtles, while Luminous Abyss familiarizes the players with creatures living on the ocean floor, i.e. jellyfish shining in the darkness or bizarre predatory fish. During the game, the player can slow down time to take a closer look at their surroundings and use a flashlight, useful when exploring the seabed.
Technical aspects
theBlu impresses with its high-quality graphics. Detailed animated animals and plants are close to photorealism, just like perfectly realized water. The game is complemented by a sound layer in which, apart from animal noises and other sounds heard in the sea, there is room for atmospheric, ambient music that builds the mood.
Other
theBlu evolved from a much smaller project, known as theBlu: Encounter. It was a two-minute technology demo, designed for the first presentation of HTC Vive goggles.
