Apollo 11 VR Description
Apollo 11 VR is an original game where players can take part in the first successful manned mission to the moon. The game presents the events preceding the historic flight, such as the launch of the Apollo 11 on the Saturn V rocket, the flight to the Silver Globe, as well as the landing and first walk on its surface. Therefore, the title plays an educational role, bringing the players closer to the details of the famous expedition, and the whole game focuses on realistic representation of its course.
Mechanics
The creators describe Apollo 11 VR as a new type of documentary film. Mechanics are not complicated, so the title is closer to a kind of a visual experience than a full-fledged video game. Almost all events are presented from FPP, and the player has full freedom to look around. The only exception is the moment when the vehicle is between the Earth and the Moon - the camera then goes into TPP mode, allowing players to have a look at the external structure of the vehicle.
During the game we sit at the controls of Apollo 11, and together with other astronauts we carry out the procedures of take-off and landing (the whole thing has been properly simplified, so it is impossible to experiment with the apparatus), and we also take part in the first walk on the Moon, when we also get the ability to control the characters, while conducting a simple, although modeled on real, research experiments.
Technical aspects
Apollo 11 VR takes place in a three-dimensional environment. A positive experience is guaranteed by the detailed visuals, thanks to which it was possible to reproduce the interior of the Apollo 11 or to present the surface of the moon in a way similar to the one seen by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. In addition, the game uses the lines actually spoken by the astronauts, and the events presented on the screen are accompanied by atmospheric music. The game has been released on PC and PlayStation 4, both of which require virtual reality goggles such as Oculus Rift or HTC Vive on PC or PlayStation VR for the console edition.
