The Walking Dead: Betrayal is a multiplayer game based on a popular franchise, tasking players with cooperating to escape zombie hordes. Each group has hidden saboteurs hindering other players.
The Walking Dead: Betrayal is an action game set in the universe known from The Walking Dead comics by Robert Kirkman and the TV series of the same name. The game revolves around multiplayer, tasking players with cooperating the escape zombies while foiling saboteurs hiding among the party.
It was developed by an American studio Other Ocean Interactive, known for Project Winter and 2019's MediEvil.
Mechanics
The Walking Dead: Betrayal is a multiplayer game for up to eight players. We control survivors living in a world overrun by zombies.
Our main objective is to escape from the living dead. To do so, we must gather key items, make repairs, craft weapons and cook food to stave off hunger. To win, we must cooperate - players need to manipulate the horde, break through it with a hail of bullets or melee weapons and cover allies completing other tasks. A significant difficulty is communication, as without a radio, players can only talk to their nearest companions.
In each party there's at least one saboteur, who must ensure the group fails at their objectives. They must stay unnoticed, set up traps, destroy items or lure zombies closer to other players while completing their own objectives. They can make use of vents and disguises to hide among the undead, only fighting directly as a last resort. Traitors can hinder others even after death by drawing enemies to their positions.
Technical aspects
The Walking Dead: Betrayal is bloody and gruesome, though ultimately humorous thanks to its colorful, upbeat visuals.
