I Am Not a Monster is a turn-based strategy game, prepared exclusively for multiplayer. The action takes place in the retrofuturistic science fiction world (inspired by films from the 1950s), where people fight against dangerous monsters hiding among them. The title was developed by Cheerdealers studio.
Mechanics
The gameplay in I Am Not a Monster resembles XCOM games - the action is observed from an isometric perspective. We plan moves and make decisions, trying to eliminate enemies. The difference is that Cheerdealers' production focuses on multiplayer mode, giving each player one character. We are randomly assigned to one of the two teams - civilians and monsters - and each of them tries to achieve different goals.
Civilians try to save NPCs and destroy monsters using weapons found in boxes scattered around the map (a combination of two of them allows players to use a specific special skill). They must be careful, however, because they can easily join the enemy themselves - each wound must be healed within a few turns, or that player will turn into a monster. Monsters, on the other hand, disguise themselves as humans, trying to discover the weaknesses of civilians; this means that we can never fully trust our allies. Each monster can see everything visible to other players.
The developers have also added an interesting solution - players' turns happen at the same time (players choose their actions, and then we observe the outcome).
Game modes
I Am Not a Monster can only be played with others in the online mode.
Technical aspects
I Am Not a Monster has quite a simple, but legible, three-dimensional graphics. Both the appearance of the location and characters, as well as the user interface resembles a bit what we know from Shadowrun games, created by Harebrained Schemes studio. However, the production of Cheerdealers is much more colorful and humorous.
