The Red Strings Club for PC is a thriller adventure game developed by the independent Deconstructeam (also known for creating Gods Will Be Watching) and published by Devolver Digital.

Plot

The action of The Red Strings Club is set in a cyberpunk world. In order to increase the level of population's happiness, a corporation called Supercontinent Ltd. intends to implement the so-called Social Psyche Welfare – a special system that eliminates pejorative feelings and emotions (including anger, depression, and agoraphobia). This idea is opposed by the two protagonists – a bartender and a homebred hacker, who consider Supercontinent's actions to be an attempt to brainwash the entire population. From this moment forth, the two protagonists (aided by a rogue android) put all their efforts into stopping the corporation.

Mechanics

The gameplay in the PC release of The Red Strings Club is based on an original formula – when playing as the bartender, who works at the titular bar, one has to serve the customers. Among them, there are those employed by Supercontinent Ltd., from which you can extract valuable information regarding the corporation. In order to do this, the main protagonist has to properly recognize his customers' moods and use his abilities to prepare special cocktails (players mix the ingredients in a specially designed minigame) that allow him to manipulate the targets and making their tongues loose.

Hacker, on the other hand, can create futuristic implants that change the personality of people pulling the strings at the corporation, which in turn might result in changing corporation's direction. Players can also affect the top-level decisions from distance by posing as executives while talking on the phone.

Technical aspects

The Red Strings Club for PC delivers pixel art visuals inspired by the 8- and 16-bit classics. This results in relatively low system requirements and makes the game available to more players. The atmosphere of the game is enriched by a piano soundtrack.
