The Pride of Taern is a browser MMORPG, produced and administered by the Polish company Whitemoon. The action is set in a fantasy world, and players create characters who were forced to flee and start a new life away from their homeland - the kingdom of Taern - due to the war turmoil. The title is distributed on a free-to-play basis with the option of micropayment.
The Pride of Taern is a production of Wroclaw-based Whitemoon studio addressed to fans of classic cRPG in the Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale style, who would like to try their hand at playing the game with thousands of players and at the same time individually follow the plot.
The action of the game takes place in the reality of fantasy. The peaceful kingdom of Taern was invaded by the troops of the Utor Empire. After the defeat of the main forces of the defenders, the invaders began a bloody conquest. The terrified people decided to desperate escape by boarding ships, to start all over again somewhere in a distant place, and perhaps one day to regain the lost lands.
Like many cRPG games (also MMORPGs), the player starts the game by creating a hero, specifying, among others, his sex and appearance, as well as choosing one of the seven available classes (barbarian, knight, sheed, archer, fire magician, voodoo, druid) and distributing several points to basic attributes (strength, dexterity, knowledge, power, life points, mana and fitness). In the course of the game, the character gathers experience, which after reaching a certain limit allows you to advance to a higher level, raise statistics and develop your skills or master new ones.
The game is distinguished by innovative combat mechanics, combining turn-based system elements and action points. Duels (with other players or opponents controlled by artificial intelligence) are divided into rounds in which the player has 10 seconds to plan his actions.
Unlike many similar productions, the creators of The Pride of Taern have left players a lot of freedom to explore the vast game world (consisting of several dozen different locations) and perform quests. In addition to tasks related to the main thread, there are hundreds of side missions to gain experience, valuable items and assets. There are also elements characteristic for MMORPGs such as the ability to create and modify objects, guilds, pets or arenas for PvP battles.
Visually, graphics offer two-dimensional graphics using isometric projection (similar to the classic cRPG). The only exception to this are the battle sequences presenting the action from the side. The party is accompanied by atmospheric music.
The Pride of Taern can be played for free (free-to-play). However, some items and amenities are only offered for a special currency to buy for real money.
