The Long Siege

A unique combination of a real-time strategy and a match-3 logic puzzle game by the indie team Anomaly Studio. The game features segments, during which you participate in sieges — while in some missions you are the invader, in other you have to defend your fortress. During the game, most of the screen consists of a map divided into 42 fields, and your task is to manipulate the randomly-generated symbols to combine at least three of the same kind.
The Long Siege is a hybrid combining the mechanisms of a match-3 logic game with a battle RTS. The project was developed by Anomaly Studios located in Singapore and is a premium product meaning it has no microtransactions.
Mechanics
The campaign takes place in magical fantasy land and the game focuses on sieges. In some missions, we direct the attacking side and then our task is to break through the opponent's defense. There are also levels where the roles are reversed and we are pushed to defending our fortress. In addition to the campaign, we can also compete with other users.
Most of the screen is occupied by a board with 42 fields. Various symbols are randomly thrown onto them and our task is to manipulate them in such a way as to obtain combinations of at least three of the same type. At the top of the screen, there is a window showing a preview of the battle. The battles are played in real-time - we summon units by creating the assigned combinations. For example, a sequence of at least three blocks with a wand gives us a magician and three swords result in a knight. Naturally, the longer the combination, the more powerful the character.
As soon as they appear on the battlefield, they move automatically towards the enemy forces and, once in contact with them, start the fight. The fact that all this takes place in real-time provides the match-3 aspect with strong time pressure, forcing us to be fast in creating combinations. From time to time, we can also find blocks activating a powerful cannon, which helps us to deal with the most powerful opponents. In addition, the authors have implemented a simple RPG system that allows you to develop units.
