Release Date: June 5, 2025
A new version of the popular third person action adventure game from Nintendo. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition delivers better framerate and resolution. It also features shorter loading times and supports the Zelda Notes function.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is an open-world action-adventure game, continuing the adventures of Link and Zelda. The game is part of Nintendo's popular series that has been active for over 30 years. It also represents an improved and enriched version of the game The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the first Nintendo Switch. The original game was a direct sequel of the best-selling The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and used many solutions that the creators did not have time to implement in its predecessor. Both games feature similar gameplay and artstyle.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition stands out from the original released in 2023 mainly due to improved framerate and resolution, shortened loading times, and support for HDR technology.
In addition to this, the remaster utilizes the Nintendo Switch mobile application, specifically the Zelda Notes feature. It facilitates navigation in the world, includes commentary from the titular princess, and also allows sharing our construction projects with other players.
Owners of the original game can update it to a newer version for an additional fee.
The Kingdom of Hyrule is once again facing danger when Princess Zelda and Link accidentally awaken the Demon King imprisoned centuries ago in the castle's dungeons. A powerful antagonist breaks free, thereby transforming Hyrule beyond recognition. His magic lifts the castle high into the air, cracks open in the ground leading to a mysterious land bathed in darkness, and in addition, flying islands full of relics from a long-forgotten but technologically advanced Zonai civilization appear in the sky. As if that wasn't enough, as a result of a fleeting confrontation with the Demon King - who is of course Ganondorf - Link loses his Master Sword and his right hand, while Princess Zelda... disappears.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a third-person title that combines elements of action game and certain elements of survival. It is largely focused on exploration and creative puzzle solving. During the game, we face numerous monsters, often requiring special tactics based on blocking or waiting for the perfect moment to attack. At the same time, we need to take care of adjusting the outfit to the weather conditions and prepare potions and meals, providing bonuses to our character.
The game features mechanics known from Breath of the Wild as well as completely new skills. Fuse allows Link to attach any items to weapons and shields, drastically changing their range or attack power. Recall is used to manipulate time on specific objects - these skills will come in handy both during clashes with enemies and solving puzzles.
The size of the world from the game has almost tripled in size thanks to the lands located in the depths and in the skies. Link can climb, use a mount or a paraglider. Thanks to the new Ultrahand skill, we can also play as a little engineer and connect various objects together, creating bridges, self-propelled means of transport or even automated war machines. Devices found by Link, such as Zonai rotors or flamethrowers, are useful both in combat and during exploration. We are only limited by our creativity, energy supply (of course renewable), and... an impressive physics engine.
The game supports the Amiibo figures produced by Nintendo - with the premiere of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition players were given the opportunity to purchase a dedicated model representing Link. In addition to being a collector's item, it also provides some in-game bonuses such as crafting materials and a unique paraglider skin.

Nintendo Life: 9 / 10 by Jim Norman
When all's said and done, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a fantastic revamp of perhaps Nintendo's most sublime sequel. What was once a technical marvel on aged hardware now has a chance to truly shine, with visual and performance boosts undoubtedly making it the definitive way to play.Nothing will ever match the feeling of playing it for the first time, of course, and some bonus content would have been welcome, but armed with Zelda Notes and the promise of buttery smooth upgrades, I'd challenge anyone to dip back in without losing hours to its unrivalled wonder.
Metro GameCentral: 10 / 10
The definitive version of one of Nintendo’s most astounding technical and design achievements, that expands and refines the world of Breath Of The Wild in new and unexpected ways.
Press Start: 10 / 10 by James Berich
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom builds upon Breath of the Wild's robust systems to offer an experience that eclipses the original in practically every way. Not only that, but it works incredibly hard to restore some of the things lapsed players might've missed from the traditional Zelda experience, and it pays off in droves. While the novelty of its design will never be as impactful as Breath of the Wild's debut, Tears of the Kingdom is one of the best Zelda experiences you'll ever have.
