The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered

The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered is a remastered version of The Legend of Legacy, a 2015 jRPG. Like its predecessor, it was developed by FuRyu. The dev team included many SaGa series alumni, such as the artist Tomomi Kobayashi, composer Masashi Hamauzu, writer Masato Kato and designer Kyoji Koizumi.

Plot

The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered is set in a fantasy world, on the island of Avalon which emerged from the sea depths ten years ago. Legends say it's the work of ancient deities, meaning the island ruins hide secrets, artifacts and treasures. We play as an adventurer, having arrived to the island for varying reasons.

Mechanics

Before beginning our playthrough of The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered we must choose one of the playable characters. These differ in terms of motivations, combat style and abilities. The roster includes Garnet the Crusader, Owen the Mercenary, Eloise the Alchemist and many others.

The gameplay makes use of the top-down perspective. As we traverse the world, we complete quests, gather better gear, develop our character and fight enemies. We're not alone on our journey, as we can choose two allies and change our party composition at any time. Our base of operations is the city of Initium. It's worth checking in here on the regular to resupply, get rid of unnecessary items and talk to the locals.

Exploration is real-time, while combat is turn-based. On the battlefield, we can choose the party formation and the stances of individual characters. Aside from regular attacks and abilities, we'll also make use of elemental spirits; good use of them can turn the tide of many a battle, but we must remember our enemies often have the same abilities as we do.

Technical aspects

The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered stands out from the original game with its thoroughly refreshed visuals. It also includes a special guide for beginners.

The game features an appealing, manga-like artstyle; parts of the environment also grow out of the ground when we get close to them. The soundtrack creates an intense, adventurous atmosphere.
