A classical point ‘n’ click adventure game developed by the independent developer Okam Studio. The title is based on the themes of The Adventures of Dog Mendonça & Pizza Boy comic book, although it tells a completely new story. Its action takes place in an alternative version of Lisbon which is inhabited not only by humans but also by other various, supernatural creatures. The latter have to abide by a special code.

Plot

The game is based on the themes of The Adventures of Dog Mendonça & Pizza Boy comic book published by Dark Horse. It isn’t an adaptation of previous released episodes, though, but offers completely new adventures. The action takes place in an alternative reality in which humans live next to supernatural creatures. The latter remains hidden thanks to abiding by a special code of conduct. Every now and then, someone breaks its rules. This is when special investigators go in.

The story is set in Lisboa. The capital of Portugal is stylzed to be a modern version of Casablanca, a neutral sport where the continent’s biggest superpowers play their game. The protagonists are Joao Vincente Mendonça and Euriko. The former is a middle-aged man who looks harmless but is, in fact, a werewolf in full control of his curse and an investigator with decades of experience fighting supernatural forces. Eurico, in turn, is a pizza guy — he hasn’t got any special talents and learns the trade under the supervision of Mendonça. The plot consists of a number of seemingly unconnected cases which, in reality, quickly turn out to be parts of a bigger scheme.

Mechanics

The Interactive Adventures of Dog Mendonça & Pizza Boy for AND, PC and iOS is a traditional point ‘n’ click adventure game. While playing, we explore locations, have conversations, gather items, and solve puzzles. The gameplay is enriched by occasional arcade sequences.

Technical aspects

The game’s graphics, which offer detailed two-dimensional backgrounds and curiously designed characters, are very attractive. Moreover, the developers recreated the style of the comic original, so we can often see spectacular comic panels that zoom in on the most important elements of a scene.
