The Filmmaker is a classic point-and-click adventure game that takes players into the 1920s and the "B" era with the task of unraveling the mystery of an abandoned cinema and the intrigue planned by a director. Production is the responsibility of the independent studio Unimatrix Productions, founded by Chris Brendel, the author of such games as Lifestream or Shady Brook.
The story begins when in our mailbox we find an unusual envelope from the Stiles Carson Gateway Theater with an invitation to the great premiere of Primal Atomsfear, directed by Claude Ferucila. And there would probably be nothing extraordinary about it, if not for the fact that this cinema was closed a year earlier, after the entire staff was brutally murdered by the previous owner, who then took his life. After arriving at the place, it quickly turns out that the cinema is still deserted and we were manoeuvred into a meticulously planned plot by Ferucila.
In order to discover the truth and real intentions of the director, we will have to solve a number of logical puzzles of varying degrees of difficulty. Tips and answers can be found both in the cinema itself - where you can still meet the spirits of previous employees - as well as in the director's previous films. Sitting in the screening room, we delve into five "B" class film productions with different themes. So we have a classic film noir A Detective Story, reminiscent of the story of Dracula The Count, animated The Fuzzies, set in the forest horror Primal Atmosfear and finally low-budget science-fiction Aliens From Mars. The combination of traces found there will lead to the last, sixth film which will give answers to all the questions that bother us.
The Filmmaker offers us a classic point-and-click interface. We move around the game world in jumps, moving the cursor to the right edge of the screen. The plot is non-linear - the cinema and all its nooks and crannies can be visited in any order. The same applies to watching films - if we get stuck at some point, we can interrupt the screening and come back to it later. The Filmmaker was created in Adventure Maker program, so the graphics of the game does not impress with its quality and detail. However, the authors used a number of filters to enhance the impression of watching film productions from the 1920s. The soundtrack changes along with the theme of the films in which we participate and fits in perfectly with the atmosphere of the game. According to the authors' announcements, solving the riddle of Stiles Carson Gateway Theater should take players about 10-12 hours.
