The Bard's Tale Trilogy is a compilation of remastered versions of the first three installments of The Bard's Tale cycle, which consists of: The Bard's Tale, The Bard's Tale II: The Destiny Knight and The Bard's Tale III: Thief of Fate. The refreshment of these cult dungeon crawlers was supervised by the Krome Studios, while the release of the set was handled by inXile Entertainment. On the day of the premiere, only the first part of the series was made available, and the next part went to the players in the hands of free updates.
Plot
In The Bard's Tale the player hits the settlement Skara Brae, on which sorcerer Mangar the Dark cast the spell of Eternal Winter, separating it from the world. A group of daredevils, over whom the player takes control, can save from the final annihilation of the village's inhabitants.
In The Bard's Tale II: The Destiny Knight our adversary is another evil magician, Lagoth Zanta, who destroyed the Brae Wand of Destiny protecting the settlement of Skara Brae, dividing it into seven parts and scattered the farthest corners of the land. Due to the fact that without it, chaos will reign in the kingdom, it is our task to complete this item in order to defeat our arch-enemy with its help.
The Bard's Tale III: Thief of Fate forces us to face a mad god named Tarjan, who razed the village of Skara Brae to the ground; in order to put an end to his actions, our team of daredevils must perform seven special tasks requiring a journey in time and space.
Mechanics
Before playing The Bard's Tale Trilogy we form a team of heroes representing different races (such as humans, elves, dwarves, hobbits, gnomes, half-elfs and half-orcs) and professions; the latter are divided into traditional (warrior, paladin, rogue, bard, hunter and monk), as well as associated with the use of magic. The choice made by us in the first part of the series is important, because in the next part of the series it is possible to import heroses created then (although at the same time nothing stands in the way of creating a new team each time).
During the game we observe the action from the perspective of the first person (FPP), looking at the game world in a small window; most of the screen takes up an extensive interface. The game consists in exploring (apart from towns and their surroundings there are numerous labyrinths and dungeons waiting to be visited), fighting with encountered enemies and solving environmental riddles. As the protagonists progress, they gain experience points and advance to the next level, developing their skills.
Technical aspects
In addition to the new graphic design The Bard's Tale Trilogy introduces a number of improvements, such as the ability to choose the sex of the heroes in each of the games included in the set, the presence of a slot machine or even an improved interface. The latest update also brought Legacy mode, allowing you to play with graphics and solutions straight from the cult originals.
