The fifth part of Tex Murphy's adventures - a private detective and life loser. In the game's plot based on the retrospective, we return to the case of the death of a university professor, the father of our protagonist's first wife. He worked on a secret project to develop a method of remote mind control. The classic story presented in the modern setting develops some threads, known to the players from the first installment of the series.

Tex Murphy: Overseer is the fifth part of the adventures of a life's failure, reminiscent of the heroes of Raymond Chandler's detective novels. In this part of the game we return to the story told in the opening game Mean Streets from 1989.

The action of the game takes place in 2043, just after the events described in The Pandora Directive. Tex Murphy and Chelsee Bando are celebrating the first anniversary of their relationship, which is an opportunity for our hero to remember. He goes back 7 years to his unsuccessful relationship with his first wife, Sylvia Linski, and to the riddle of her father's alleged suicide. The story, based on the retrospective, focuses on solving the case of the death of a father-in-law, a university professor, which was closed by the police in unclear circumstances. As it turns out, he worked on a secret research project aimed at developing a method of remote control of the mind. Our hero discovers that someone tries to hide the whole case, and the circle of suspects reaches many very influential people.

Overseer is realized in the same convention as the two previous parts of the series. So we are dealing with a classic adventure in which we move freely in a prerendered, three-dimensional environment and interact with characters played by live actors. In addition to Chris Jones, who we already know and who played the role of Murphy, the cast includes Michael York, Richard Norton, Clint Howard and Joe Estevez. The plot is completely linear and, unlike previous page views, does not contain alternative paths of action development or many possible endings. For less skilled players there is a special system of hints, and those who are not fluent in English can help each other by using subtitles.

In technical terms, the fifth part of the series is a significant step forward, not least because it was created to showcase the capabilities of Pentium processors with MMX technology. As one of the first adventure games, Tex Murphy: Overseer uses 16-bit color palette and modern 3D graphics accelerators. In addition, the DVD version boasts high quality 5-channel sound.
