The Japanese company Nintendo is responsible for creating and releasing the game. The game is available for free to subscribers of the Nintendo Switch Online service.
Tetris 99 is a variation on the classic arcade logic game, which combines old ideas with mechanics from the battle royale shooters. The game allows players to compete with each other based on the rules known from one of the most recognizable video games in history - the iconic Tetris. The game eas created by Nintendo (creators of such series as Mario or Zelda).
Mechanics
Tetris 99 is an ingenious remake of the classic game that tests logical thinking and skills, and has been present on most platforms for years. The game revolves around arranging blocks in various shapes falling from the top of the screen. Upon filling at least one horizontal line, it disappears, freeing space for the next blocks. Over time, both the pace and the difficulty of the game increase.
To make things a bit easier, there is a special window on the side of the screen showing the shapes of the next blocks. In addition, players can pause one piece of the puzzle - it disappears from the game, but it can be returned to at any key moment. This adds a bit of strategy to the game - the proper utilizasion of this mechanics gives players a considerable advantage over their opponents.
Well.... opponents. The most important feature that distinguishes this game from its previous iterations of the game, is the fact that we play simultaneously with other players, and our task is to survive as long as possible. We also have the ability to activate special attacks that distract rivals from what is happening on the screen. One sees how many players still take part in the game - and even how their own puzzles look like.
Game modes
In Tetris 99 we can only play with others. The game has its foundation in the multiplayer mode, which allows 99 people to have fun at the same time.
Technical aspects
Tetris 99 has very simple 2D visuals. Its greatest advantage lies in its transparency - players can clearly see what is happening on the screen. The lighting effects, which accompany some of the "attacks", animations of falling blocks and backgrounds, also look quite decent. The game is accompanied by a dynamic, catchy soundtrack, the pace of which changes as the level of difficulty increases.
It is worth noting that this production has been made available for free to subscribers of the Nintendo Switch Online service - we can play it as long as we pay the subscription fee.
