An action game with roguelike elements. In Tenjutsu we play as a former yakuza member, trying to defeat criminal syndicates from Secret Garden City. We do that by taking part in battles, using fists, melee weapons and firearms. We start over after each death.
Tenjutsu is an action game enriched with some roguelike elements. The development of this game was handled by Deepnight Games - an independent development studio, which also released Nuclear Blaze in 2021. The company was founded by Sebastien Benard, the main developer of the best-selling Dead Cells game.
Plot
Tenjutsu takes us to the fictional Secret Garden City. During the game we play the role of a former yakuza member who decides to declare war on her former principals and eliminate their associates from the city. Whether and how this is accomplished depends on our actions.
Mechanics
In Tenjutsu we watch the action from a bird's eye view. The city map is divided into four sectors, and each of them is controlled by a different criminal syndicate that we must destroy. Individual gangs are differentiated in terms of strengths and weaknesses. Based on this knowledge, we need to select targets and methods of operation. Although the syndicate with which we start the game is relatively easy to defeat, each subsequent one is increasingly prepared for our arrival, which makes the game gradually more difficult.
The way to defeat each of the gangs is to fight against waves of enemies. We eliminate enemies by fighting in close quarters and using both the protagonist's fists and legs, as well as melee weapons. On the battlefield, we must be constantly moving, avoiding enemy attacks (also from a distance, as there are adversaries equipped with firearms) and performing spectacular and brutal combinations.
As the city is being cleared of bandits, shops and restaurants reopen, where we can purchase various upgrades. In this way we also permanently unlock shortcuts for current and future games. It should be remembered that after we die we have to start the whole journey from the beginning, changing things in our approach to the mission (starting with the order of defeating successive syndicates).

The graphic design of Tenjutsu was done in pixel art technique.
