Tenchu: Shadow Assassins is another installment in an action game series about ninja warriors. For the first time since 1998, when Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins was released, the production process was assigned to Acquire Studios, the creators of the original Tenchu – they had also developed Way of the Samurai and Shinobido.

Players assume the role of the two warriors known from the previous games: Rikimaru and Ayame. They have different skills and tactics – strong but slow Rikimaru prefers staying in the shadows, taking out opponents by surprise, while his partner prefers direct combat. She is also more agile and aggressive. There are 10 main missions and over 50 side quests in total. Since the game is set in feudal Japan, the creators included weapons typical of this period: katanas, Ninjatos, tantos, shurikens, and some more unique gear of ninja fighters, e.g. smoke bombs.

Generally, PSP version of Tenchu: Shadow Assassins is a port from Nintendo Wii. Of course, the controls system was changed to fit the handheld console, resembling the one used in the previous games in the series. Also the graphics was adjusted to technical capabilities of the portable console.
