Samurai Warriors: Katana is one of the representatives of the title series, initiated by the product released in 2004. Subsequent editions of the Samurai Warriors series were released on various hardware platforms, including Xbox 360 and PSP. This time we are dealing with a product that has been issued exclusively on a Wii console. The obvious improvement seems to be to base all fights on simulating real strokes. Wii Remote is naturally used for this purpose. Interestingly, this is not the first title with a similar combat system. The White Weapons duels have already appeared in Red Steel, among other games. Preparation of Samurai Warriors: Katana is the responsibility of Koei, also known for the Warriors Dynasty series.
This sketchbook is not an official continuation of previous versions of the cycle. This is due, among other things, to the drastic simplification of the gameplay rules. Samurai Warriors: Katana resembles popular rail shooters in many ways. The action is observed from the perspective of the first person, and our task is to eliminate the opponents appearing on the screen and marked by the game. For this purpose, we can primarily use several types of weapons. In addition to the title katana, it can be, among others, a spear, or.... yo-yo. The option of using ranged weapons was also taken care of. These can be rifles, arches and even interestingly designed boomerangs. More weapons are, of course, gained as the game progresses. In addition, they can be upgraded to deal more serious damage for a fee. Weapons (one regular and one distance) are selected before each of the available missions.
This production has three basic play modes to offer. In Scenario Mode we join a singleleplayer campaign consisting of several chapters. Here we have to overcome the missions in the order set by the producers. The Challenge Mode consists of simpler tasks. As a reward for their finishing you can unlock new weapons and additional items (including healing vials). Competition Mode consists of eight simple mini-games. The game does not contain any multiplayer modes.
As has already been said, the game is entirely based on the need to eliminate enemies. The indicators on their bodies indicate which type of weapon can be used at a given moment. For example, in order to use a katana, one must of course wait until a given warrior approaches. All White Weapons attacks require Wii Remote's beats, symbolizing the real action shown on the screen. In the case of distance attacks, the Wii controller is used to target selected enemies. The characteristic viewfinder is, of course, visible on the screen.
The manufacturer has also provided for the possibility of making special shocks. To do this, however, fill in the bar visible on the screen. The Wii Controller is also used for other types of actions, such as avoiding avoidance hazards. Moreover, in some missions we ride a horse. However, these stages are only complementary to the main campaign levels. Samurai Warriors visual luminaire: Katana has a relatively low level of workmanship. What deserves attention is the fact that several enemies are often visible on the screen.
