Synapse Description
Synapse is a visually stunning FPS created with VR in mind. It was developed by nDreams, a studio also responsible for games of a similar genre such as Phantom: Covert Ops and Fracked.
Plot
The playable character of Synapse is a secret agent tasked with eliminating the threat posed by the enemies of the state. Unlike James Bond, Sam Fisher and other known spies, the protagonist doesn't need to rely solely on cunning and firearms. He is adept at using telekinesis, making him quite fearsome to face off against.
Mechanics
The gameplay of Synapse is shown from the first-person perspective. The player must traverse various locations, complete objectives and eliminate enemies. The protagonist wields a pistol in his right hand, using his left to channel telekinetic powers. He can use them to pick up objects (removing obstacles or enemy cover) or pick up enemies themselves, then throw them into other foes or off ledges; he can also throw back grenades sent his way. Progressing through the game lets us upgrade our hero's skills, making him even better at killing, resulting in more spectacular encounters.
Technical aspects
The visuals of Synapse are breathtaking, in no small part thanks to its artstyle. The monochromatic areas contrast with the neon visual effects accompanying gunfire and the use of telekinesis. Yet another feature are partially destructible environments. The game runs on the Unreal Engine.
