Survival: Fountain of Youth

Survival: Fountain of Youth is an FPP survival game set on a 16th-century archipelago. The gameplay revolves around exploring the open world, gathering resources, building shelters and hunting wild animals. It was develoepd by an independent studio Odinsoft.

Plot

The game is set in the times of great geographical discoveries. We play as a member of the expedition led by Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon. They aim to find the titular Fountain of Youth, a mythical water source granting eternal life. Unfortunately, the journey ends in a shipwreck.

As one of the survivors we get washed up on a mysterious island, which is part of a larger archipelago. Struggling to survive against hostile wildlife, we eventually stumble across the remains of a once-powerful ancient civilization.

Mechanics

Survival: Fountain of Youth is a sandbox featuring over fifteen different islands. The player must take care of their character's needs, crafting tools, buildings and means of transportation. Initially we're limited to using wood and stone. Over time we gain access to more advanced items, such as metal armor, gunpowder, muskets and 16th century ships.

Throughout the game we can also incease our skills, such as skinning animals (over thirty different kinds), shooting and cooking. We'll also face many different dangers. The player must hunt the local wildlife, watch out for poisonous plants, deal with changing weather, injuries and diseases such as malaria.

Each of the islands available in Survival: Fountain of Youth has different environments, with the player able to encounter sunny beaches, swamps and deserts. The sea depths, meanwhile, hide many treasures. By exploring we can find clues left by other survivors and the puzzle-filled ancient ruins.
