Super Magbot

Super Magbot is a platform game, developed by independent Astral Pixel studio. The game, which was produced by Team17, known for its cult Worms series, stands out from the rest of the platform games due to its lack of jumping ability.

Plot

Super Magbot takes us on a journey to the fictional galaxy Magnetia, whose fate hangs by a thread when it is in the sight of a powerful villain. During the game, we take control of the Super Magbot, which is an exploration robot that has to crack down on this supervillain and restore order to the galaxy.

Mechanics

In Super Magbot, we watch the action from the side. More than a hundred different levels are waiting to be visited here. They consist of four unique worlds filled with various traps and terrain obstacles. Each of them crowns a clash with a powerful boss, whose defeat requires making proper use of the mechanics presented at a given stage.

Although the main character is not able to jump because of his weight, he is able to move quickly around the platforms and avoid dangers thanks to red and blue magnets, which swarm on maps. A shot with a radius of the same colour results in the repulsion of the Magbot, while a radius of a different colour results in an attraction. As we progress, we discover new types of magnets; among their eight types we will find, among others, special launchers that repel the protagonist at high speed and those that allow the Magbot to hang in the air for a short while. There is also a bonus energy waiting for those who want it, the collection of which requires reaching the extremely hard to reach corners of the level.

Technical aspects

Super Magbot has colourful, pixelart graphics referring to the golden age of 16 bit games. The retro style is complemented by a catchy, chiptune soundtrack.
