Celeste Description
Celeste is a platform game by indie studio Matt Makes Games, the creators of the well-received TowerFall: Ascension. The game was released on many devices, including PC, PS4 and etc..
Plot
In Celeste, you play as a red-heaired girl living in a fantasy world. She decides to complete a dangerous challenge of climbing a tall mountain and you accompany her on the perilous way up.
Mechanics
The game utilizes a side view. The gameplay focuses on traversing varied levels (over 300 of them), jumping on platforms, and avoiding countless traps. Celeste also features unusual mechanics, among them the possibility to climb vertical walls, so you can basically move in all directions to find the way to your destination.
The protagonist can also use short-distance teleportation and travel through wormholes, which can be found on some levels. The game features a high level of difficulty, although things are a bit easier thanks to conveniently placed checkpoints. The levels are also full of strawberry collectibles, most of which are well hidden, which often compensates for the need to backtrack.
Technical aspects
Celeste was heavily inspired by 16-bit productions. The 2D visuals feature a pixel-art style, and the soundtrack consists of catchy, dynamic chiptune music.
