The story presented in Sunrise meets the fate of three New York scientists. They are them: 26-year-old Brian, his peer Max and two years older Rydec. These gentlemen have recently been working on a secret project which was supposed to guarantee them not only an improvement in their standard of living, but also a Nobel Prize award. Unfortunately, on the day, when engineers were to present to the world the fruit of their long-term activities, something went wrong and their experiment finished in a catastrophe. The protagonists suddenly found themselves in an unfamiliar place, and the spiciness of their adventure added to the unexpected appearance of a beautiful, yet mysterious woman.
The player's task is to find answers to the tormenting questions of Rydec, Max and Brian. In order to do so, he has to solve the riddles waiting for him in 27 locations in New York City. Dealing with puzzles requires the ability to think logically, remember the information obtained from the people encountered, as well as the skilful use of the collected objects. Sunrise allows you to solve some problems in several ways, and in special situations it also allows you to support the system of automatic instructions.
An important element of the game are dialogues, for the needs of which several thousand spoken issues with a total length of 12 hours were recorded. Talks were also spiced up with situational jokes and humorous comments on the player's actions. As far as the graphical layer is concerned, it is based on the free Wintermute Engine. Thanks to him, the creators of New York landscapes were given the right styling and enriched their work with appropriate weather effects and a game of chiaroscuro. They also calculated that the product prepared by them should be sufficient for 20 hours of uninterrupted play.
