Black Legend
Sunderfolk is a tactical RPG with card game elements, inspired by "tabletop" role-playing games. The game was developed by Secret Door studio, which belongs to Dreamhaven, a company founded by Mike Morhaime (one of the "fathers" of Blizzard Entertainment).
Plot
The action of Sunderfolk takes place in a fantasy land called Sunderlands, the heart of which is the city of Arden. The remnants of the magical stone of light provide its inhabitants with a peaceful life in prosperity... at least that was the case, until the dark forces from the surrounding caves began to set their sights on it. During the game we take on the role of heroes whose task is to defend Arden from the threats lurking in the Sunderlands.
Gameplay
Gameplay in Sunderfolk is based on two pillars. The first of these are missions in which we watch the action from a bird's eye view and lead our chosen character into battle. We can play as an arcanist, a bard, a berserker, a pyromancer, a hunter, and a rogue. Each of these classes has an individual set of strengths and weaknesses, as well as different skills that we use on the battlefield.
And speaking of fighting - battles take place in turn-based mode, on arenas covered with a grid of hexagonal fields. During this process, we play cards associated with the individual skills of our character. One of the keys to success here is to compose the most powerful deck possible. As we progress, we gather better equipment (including weapons), which also increases our combat potential.
During breaks from fighting in the Sunderlands, we return to Arden, which is our base of operations. Visits to the city are an opportunity to meet its inhabitants, stock up on new equipment, and also improve this place, which is the second pillar of the game. We can build new shops and develop those already unlocked.
Companion app
What makes Sunderfolk unique compared to most other games of this type is the fact that we use a mobile device (smartphone or tablet) with the Android or iOS system and a free companion app installed as the controller. This gives us control over the character, allows us to juggle cards and equipment, and also enables us to familiarize ourselves with the rules of the game.
Co-op
Sunderfolk allows for local co-op play only. The game supports up to 4 players.
