Subaeria

Subaeria for PC, PS4 and XONE is a mix of puzzle and arcade game mixed with roguelike features. It is a work of Canadian team of Illogika Studios, known for titles like Hitman GO from Amazon Appstore and apps like Disney Action! or V.F.C.

Plot

The game takes players to the titular city of Subaeria, located underwater and being a home for sentient machines. Playing as one of human inhabitants of the metropolis, a girl named Styx who looks for revenge, we try to survive and outsmart opponents.

Game mechanics

Protagonist of Subaeria for PC, PS4 and XONE isn’t a super-heroine, nor can she use any weapon. This means players must use their wits to get through locations of the underwater city. Developers gave us a little helper in form of a small Drone (its skills are developed as the game progresses), which can e.g. take control of mechanical enemies called The Cleaners. What’s more, both their behavior and parts of surroundings can be used during adventure, and all of these features are necessary to manipulate foes into fighting each other.

Technical aspects

Visuals of Subaeria aren’t breathtaking, but considering how small of a project it is, the game looks rather good. We observe the world form top-down perspective, with all characters and objects being three-dimensional models. Gameplay is accompanied by various effects, e.g. explosions after eliminating enemies and decent light play.
