Streets of SimCity

One year after the release of the SimCopter simulator, Maxis developers give players - once again in the history of the series - the opportunity to move into the virtual world known from the popular city builder cycle. This time, however, instead of driving a helicopter, we sit behind the wheel of a car to take a crazy ride through the streets of SimCity.

The general idea of the game remained unchanged in relation to SimCopter. The most important element of the Streets of SimCity is the ability to move freely through cities, created by players in SimCity 2000 or in a specially prepared SimCity Urban Renewal Kit. In addition, the game gives you the opportunity to play in one of the many modes dedicated to one or more players, on more than fifty maps designed for the production of maps.

By choosing to play in career mode, players take part in one of the five television shows, consisting of performing various types of missions, divided into episodes of increasing difficulty. At Zippy's Courier Service, our task is to deliver as many shipments as possible in the shortest possible time. In Galahad's Watch, we take part in a criminal story, eliminating corrupt cops. In the humorous Granny's Wild Ride, players play the role of a grandmother who discovers plans to invade strangers, and her only goal is to stop strangers. And finally Race For Your Life, where we participate in a series of dynamic rallies as a racing driver. The fifth, unnamed show requires us to perform a number of unrelated missions, such as untypical deliveries or deathmatch fights.

Streets of SimCity contains online gameplay options for deathmatch and freeplay. Players join an existing room or create their own by choosing cars, choosing a city and setting the rules of the game. Up to 8 players can participate in one skirmish at the same time. Depending on the selected mode, the game consists in surviving in battle with each other or cooperation in pairs.

Game developers introduced many innovative solutions and ideas into their titles, which many years later turned out to be a standard in action games. However, due to hardware limitations, not all of the concepts were fully exploited and Streets of SimCity did not knock the fans to their knees, both in terms of binding and playability.
