Steel Rats is an action racing game from the Polish studio Tate Multimedia. The player becomes a member of a biker gang - the eponymous Steel Rats. They aim to eliminate the murderous robots that reign over the city. The production is characterized by a 2.5D perspective and retro-futuristic designs.
Plot
In Steel Rats, the player takes on the role of a member of the Steel Rats gang - a group of once lawless outcasts who traveled through to Coastal City on their motorcycles, and now are only chance to save its inhabitants, threatened by murderous, intelligent robots. The game presents a retro-futuristic vision of the United States of the 40's and 50's.
Mechanics
Steel Rats combines elements of racing and action games. The main goal of the player is not only to reach the finish line - but also eliminate the robots in the best possible style. The production offers a wide range of customization options for the motorcycles - new motorcycle parts can be bought for the currency gained as a reward for destroying enemies. In this way, we can personalize the game - depending on the selected parts, the motorcycle is better adapted to various tasks. Both those who want to focus on combat and those who prefer acrobatic tricks and exploration will find something for themselves. The way the game is played is also determined by the choice of one of the four characters, between which you can smoothly switch at any moment during the game. The player is not limited to one path - levels can be completed in different ways.
Technical aspects
The game is characterized by an interesting retrofuturistic and slightly humorous visuals, and the visited locations are very refined and varied. The Japanese band The 5.6.7.7.8's is responsible for part of the soundtrack; their song could be heard in the film Kill Bill: Volume 1.
