A metroidvania, enriched with elements of stealth games. In SteamDolls: Order of Chaos, we find ourselves in a steampunk world; as an an anarchist and thief known as The Whisper, we follow a conspiracy that can shake the foundations of a fixed order.
SteamDolls: Order of Chaos is a metroidvania that takes us on a journey into a spoiled, steampunk world. The game was developed by the independent team of the Shady Gentlemen and published by Top Hat Studios. Among the sources of inspiration for the developers are games such as Castlevania, Dead Cells, Hollow Knight and Bloodborne.
Plot
SteamDolls: The Order of Chaos takes us to a universe where fossil fuels have run out, leading to the gradual fall of society. In search of a cure for the growing problems of a civilization that has gone back in development to the Industrial Revolution, scientists have made a breakthrough discovery. But it quickly got out of control in the form of a virus that turned people into mutated creatures. The main hero of the game is The Whisper, that is a thief and an anarchist, who finds himself following a conspiracy that could destroy the foundations of the world in which he lived.
Mechanics
In SteamDolls: Order of Chaos, we observe the action from the side-scrolling perspective. During the game, we walk through gloomy locations, which together make up a kind of maze. In these places we come across not only friendly characters willing to support us in our mission, but also all kinds of enemies. Among the enemies we can find both local "law enforcement" and mutant people, while the mighty bosses lead the way. Although nothing stands in the way of trying to act openly, it is often better to sneak behind the enemy's back and attack them by surprise.
Technical aspects
The graphic design of SteamDolls: Order of Chaos has been maintained in a colourful cartoon-like style. The main character's voice was given by David Hayter - an actor known for his role of Solid Snake in the first four parts of the Metal Gear Solid series.
