Platform action game with sneaky elements developed by Atomic Wolf studio. In Liberated, we find ourselves in a dystopian reality in which the authorities subject the citizens to extensive surveillance. In the course of the game, we follow the fate of four characters, among whom we will find both allies of the government and members of the resistance movement - the Liberated people in the title.
Liberated is an action platform game with an emphasis on sneaking aspects, offering an extensive storyline. The game was developed by the independent Warsaw-based Atomic Wolf team.
Plot
Liberated takes players to a dystopian reality in which, under the pretext of ensuring security, the authorities subject citizens to mass surveillance. Basing of data from social networks, omnipresent cameras, and even bank transfers, a virtual profile of each person is created. The police and the government are even violating human rights in an attempt to establish order. A group of daredevils - the titular Liberated - declare war to this regime. Just like those they fight against, the protagonists use violence to achieve their goals.
In the course of the game, players can trace the fate of four characters standing on both sides of the barricade; each of them with a uniquechapter in the overall story. The story is told via cutscenes showing the next pages of the virtual comic book. The ending to this story depends on the decisions players make.
Mechanics
In Liberated, the action is shown from the side perspective. When completing consecutive levels, one often has to avoid direct confrontation with enemies; in order to do so, players should observe their opponents' patrol routes and sneak behind their backs or look for alternative paths. On the other hand, the game does not lack sequences when players have to draw a weapon, stand up, and fight. The gameplay is enriched with spectacular scenes presented in the form of Quick Time Events and a system of dialogues.
Technical aspects
Liberated has 2.5D visuals maintained noir style achieved not only by the monochromatic colors, but also by the atmospheric soundtrack accompanying the game.
