GameLuster: 7 / 10 by Mateusz Niewierowski
SPRAWL's menacing aesthetic, exciting gunplay and an unbelievably good soundtrack make for a yet another fantastic FPS campaign that leaves me wanting more in the future.
Impulsegamer: 3.6 / 5
Issues I had with the controls aside, SPRAWL is a solid shooter with a fantastic soundtrack and aesthetic. When you get into the flow of chaining together wall runs and jumps, sliding around, and taking down enemies with precise headshots, it's a fun time. The story isn't anything to write home about, but it does what it needs to do and at under $20/L15 at full price, it's worth taking a look at.
Hey Poor Player: 4 / 5 by Jonathan Trussler
Sprawl is a focused and fun boomer shooter, even though it whets your appetite for more than it ends up giving you. There’s some brilliant ambience and scenery that suggests a much richer, more complex world than you get to see in its straightforward levels, empty of people and things to do other than an army of familiar foes to kill. Nonetheless, the gunplay is top-notch, especially when mixed with some wall-running parkour action. If you’re looking for an entertaining FPS with a satisfyingly cyberpunky flavour then Sprawl is just the right implant to augment your Steam library.
SPRAWL Description
SPRAWL is a fast-paced FPS inspired by Quake, Akira and Ghost in the Shell. It was developed by an indie studio MAETH and published by Rogue Games.
Plot
SPRAWL is set in a dystopian, cyberpunk world, where cybernetics has first jump-started civilization, then led to its collapse. The game's protagonist is Seven, a super soldier, fighting against the government forces out to kill her. Guided by a mysterious voice in her head, Seven seeks a way out of the walled-off metropolis, reach the mysterious Spire and overthrow the Junta, a military regime reigning over what remains of civilization.
Mechanics
SPRAWL is a first-person game. The stages are set in atmospheric, cyberpunk locations. As we make our way through them, we must complete objectives and kill hordes of enemies. Seven's diverse arsenal includes a katana, dual pistols, a shotgun, and many other futuristic weapons.
She can quickly swap between weapons in the middle of combat. Her Icarus implant also lets her jump higher, wall run, wall jump and slow down time. All of this lets us dispatch enemies in various creative ways. Creativity is encouraged, as it grants us rewards such as extra ammo, health and other useful bonuses.
Technical aspects
SPRAWL features a neon retro artstyle reminiscent of the iconic games from the 1990s. The atmospheric soundtrack changes according to our actions.
