Space Marshals 3 is the third instalment of the popular series of mobile shooters. Again, it offers an unusual fusion of western and science fiction. The game was created by Swedish studio Pixelbite, also responsible for Xenowerk and Reckless Racing. The game was released in an episodic model. The first two levels are available for free - the rest must be purchased.
Plot
The story continues the threads that began in the previous part of the series. However, it is not required to know them to understand the plot. Once again, we play the role of sheriff Burton, the interplanetary law enforcement officer. The player's mission is to eliminate the bandits, criminals and villains threatening the inhabitants of the visited planets. History is not taken too seriously and contains a large dose of humour.
Mechanics
Space Marshals 3 is a twin-stick shooter. We observe the action from above, from top-down view. The left side of the screen is responsible for movement and the right side is responsible for aiming and shooting. Tapping the screen allows us to crouch, making it harder for our enemies to see us. The levels are full of covers behind which sheriff Burton can hide from enemy sight or gunshot. Killing enemies in open shoot-out is possible, albeit difficult. Burton is vulnerable to injury and dies quickly. When aiming, he looks out of the cover, exposing himself to gunfire, and the enemies almost always outnumber him. The core of the game is therefore the elimination of enemies one by one, quietly.
A player can kill his enemies from hiding in several ways. If we approach our enemy from behind, we can strangle him to unconsciousness. Surprise shots cause increased damage. Larger groups of enemies can be attacked with a dynamite stick or grenade. Enemy turrets are scattered across the maps; having found the terminal that controls them, we can reprogramme them so that they shoot out the enemy for us.
There are several key enemies on each map. By eliminating them, we are ensuring ourselves a higher rating at the end of the level. The higher the score, the better the prizes we receive. In this way we are expanding our arsenal. Among other things, we have revolvers, pistols, shotguns, rifles, crossbows, plasma and laser weapons.
Game modes
Space Marshals 3 includes only a single-player campaign.
Technical aspects
The graphic design and interface have not changed significantly. As in Space Marshals 2, the game has 3D graphics. The style and transparency of the graphics may appeal.
