Sovereign Syndicate

Sovereign Syndicate is a classic RPG inspired by such titles as Baldur's Gate, the first installments of the Fallout series, Divinity: Original Sin or Disco Elysium. The game was developed by an independent Canadian team Crimson Herring Studios and is its debut project.

Plot

Sovereign Syndicate takes us on a journey to the alternative, steampunk version of London from the Victorian Era. We play as one of three characters whose stories, shaped by our decisions, intertwine with each other. While Atticus Daley is a magically empowered Minotaur trying to deal with his alcohol addiction and find his place in the world, Clara Reed is a buccaneer on the trail of a courtesan killer, and Otto, a machine created by engineer Theodore Redgrave, wants more from life than serving and being a useful tool.

Mechanics

In Sovereign Syndicate we watch the action from an isometric view. The game gives us a vast open world, which consists of twenty different locations. Wandering through dark streets and squalid buildings that make up steampunk London, we complete tasks pushing forward the plot and engage in various side missions. Each problem can be solved in a variety of ways, including persuasion and combat.

When talking with the residents of the city, we must remember that how we will be treated by them depends not only on the choice of dialogue lines, but also the sex of our character and its appearance. During the conversation we can use the unique abilities of the character. Interestingly, the success in skill tests doesn't depend on virtual dice rolls, but tarot cards we draw.

Speaking of abilities - each of the characters has an individual set of them. We develop certain skills simply by using them; those that are lying idle, with time fall into stagnation. This system allows you to easily adapt the character to your individual style of play. Besides, we can increase the abilities of the hero by equipping him with better equipment.

Technical aspects

Graphics of Sovereign Syndicate is in a rather gloomy style. Visited locations are mostly brown and most of them are additionally plunged in darkness.
