Solitairica

Solitairica is an unusual game that combines elements of card game, RPG and roguelike. The game also refers with its gameplay mechanics to a classic card game - solitaire. The studio Righteous Hammer Games has developed it ( authors of ZOR: Pilgrimage and Solitaire Volume I).

Plot

Solitairica takes place in the land of Myrriod. The hearts of all its inhabitants were stolen by the sinister Emperor Stuck. The player leads a warrior who challenges a tyrant and tries to save the world.

Mechanics

Solitairica is closest to the card game. The gameplay here is mainly about fighting with the use of a turn-based card fighting system based on ideas known from Solitaire. Enemies are generated procedurally (randomly), so that each time the gameplay looks a slightly different.

The combat mechanics is based on four "energies": attack (responsible for offensive actions and the possibility of destroying cards), defense (counter and armor), agility (allows you to watch your enemy's hand and act faster) and willpower (gives access to healing and magical powers). The player has the opportunity to earn more cards representing, among other things, items and spells, which gradually give more possibilities. There are also deck upgrades - this role is played by Ace, King and Queen, for example.

The developers of the Righteous Hammer Games also took care of the progression system - we gather wildstone, with which we unlock new perks. It is worth noting that this mechanics refers to the roguelike sub-genre - after a failure we start again, but keep some of the unlocked things.

Game modes

In Solitairica we can only play alone. The core of the game is the single player mode.

Technical aspects

Solitairica has quite a simple, 2D graphic design, which is based mainly on hand-drawn illustrations. The artistic style of these images is characterised by a considerable dose of humour, while the appearance of some characters shows a clear reference to the illustrations on classic cards. The game uses Unreal Engine 4.
