Sociable Soccer 24 Description
Sociable Soccer is a spiritual successor to the Sensible Soccer series developed by Tower Studios headed by Jon Hare. Hare is former creative director of the aforementioned franchise and the co-founder of the once famous Sensible Software. He also worked on such games as Cannon Fodder and Wizball.
Mechanics
The gameplay of Sociable Soccer is inspired by fast-paced arcade football games. The most important factor is the player’s skill, although it is possible to change footballers during a match, set formation, tactics, and so on. There is a number of clubs and sportsmen at our disposal (in total, over 500 team with more than 10 thousand players). However, Tower Studios failed to secure a FIFA license that would allow them to use real names of clubs and sportsmen so they are slightly altered.
Game modes
Sociable Soccer allows us to play in several modes. Apart from single-player classic quick matches and leagues, the developers put great emphasis on multiplayer and social aspect. The players, using the avatar edition, create their virtual characters who then join a clan within Sociable Soccer Clans. Such teams compete with others for the highest rank in the leaderboards. Naturally, we might also participate in tournaments or simply play an ordinary match against another player.
Technical aspects
The title cannot visually compete with the latest installments of the FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer series. Both the gameplay and the graphics are inspired by the older productions and therefore the game is far from realistic in terms of it visuals. However, we can use various camera settings, trying to imitate the classic installments of the Sensible Soccer series or the modern football games.
Misc.
Jon Hare initially tried to secure funding for the development of Sociable Soccer on Kickstarter. In November, 2015, he asked the community for 300 thousand pounds but the campaign failed and was canceled after a dozen of days due to relatively low interest. In the end, the production was funded the old-fashioned way.
