Snooker Nation Championship for PC and XONE is a snooker simulator, released by an independent studio Cherry Pop Games, responsible for Pool Nation, released in 2012, and it’s reedition for eight generation consoles, Pool Nation FX.
Mechanics
When it comes to mechanics, Snooker Nation Championship doesn’t differ much from the previous installments of the billiard series. The gameplay plays out similarly, but because of the snooker’s individual nature – as the game is much more sublimed than regular “barroom” billiards – a good knowledge of the rules is recommended. In contrast with Pool Nation, the title doesn’t include any alternative variant of billiards, keeping it straight to snooker rules and regulations applicable in the world championships. For newbie players, an accessible tutorial has been prepared, introducing the gamers to basic controls, for example, placing the balls, or applying necessary rotation, and the ability to control the camera, or watching the table from various perspectives.
Game modes
Snooker Nation Championship for PC and XONE includes single-player, as well as multi-player modes. As a lone wolf, we can compete with AI, in championships comprised of elimination bout and 5 rounds of the main tournament. In multi-player, we can face the other players in a local mode (hot-seat), or take part in ranking multiplayer matches, climbing to the top of the world snooker ladder. In case of multiplayer matches, the game allows for setting a few basic game parameters, like duration of the match, time for action, or length of the “ruler”. The ability to customize your equipment is also here: a large number of cues, balls, etc., is available.
Technical aspects
Snooker Nation Championship, released on PC and XONE, uses WSC Real – an engine used in the previous installments. It’s characterized by high-quality visuals, in a style known from Pool Nation FX. The tables, as well as the interiors, are fully three-dimensional, and include a lot of eye-catching details. Great physics engine deserves special attention, as it allows for a highly realistic gameplay and the ability to perform actions which play out exactly the same as on a real snooker table.
